My First ECO Buy With Flora & Fauna

Updated: Apr 29, 2020

My first ever eco friendly buy was from an Australian company by the name of Flora and Fauna. I had been researching the best ways to limit my carbon footprint and minimise waste in the world and came across this company on google. It was so important for me to learn about the ways of becoming better at reduce, reuse and recycle on my home soil, with a brand that supports a worldwide movement and is 100% vegan, ethical and cruelty free.

My first purchase was a bamboo toothbrush, a gorgeous natural handmade coconut bowl and a vegan Hurraw! unscented lip balm (also safe for coeliacs!).

Hurraw! Unscented Lip Balm

I really love using the Hurraw! Lip balm and while I haven't bought some in quite a while for myself, I have bought several bulk buys to add to business gifts, as my business supports health, wellness, is environmentally friendly and vegan conscious.

Hurraw! Lip Balm is a certified vegan, cruelty free, organic brand made in the USA. Each lip balm is hand poured and comes in a 4.3g tube. There are 25 different scents to choose from including the unscented range that I have tried. All ingredients are organic and sourced directly from farmers to ensure the highest quality products are going into their all natural, raw lip balms.

Green + Kind Handcrafted Polished Coconut Bowl

Each coconut bowl is hand made and is unique due to the size and shape of the coconut that has been used to create it. They are perfect for snacks, nibbles, dry and cool foods or even just good as decoration. I personally use my gorgeous coconut bowl for smudging rituals as it's the perfect size for catching embers and fall out from the smudge sticks.

Note: they are natural and not sealed so are not suitable for food with excess liquid and not suitable for food which is very hot as it can cause the bowl to crack.

Flora & Fauna Eco Friendly Bamboo Toothbrush with Soft Bristles.

I bought the soft biodegradable bamboo toothbrush to trial as I usually use a soft standard plastic toothbrush. Each toothbrush is made with MOSO sustainable bamboo, with a biodegradable handle and nylon bristles (nylon can be recycled, check with your local waste collection on whether they recycle this). The recommendation from Flora & Fauna is to pull out the bristles, or cut off the head, for disposal, and pop the handle in the composter.

It took me a little while to get used to the feeling of the bamboo in my mouth while brushing and the feel of the bristles, but since that day, I haven't changed back to a standard toothbrush. I now buy in bulk from Biome and have converted my whole family to using bamboo toothbrushes full time.

I was so excited to find at the check out for Flora & Fauna, that I could opt for no excess packaging and when it all arrived, it was placed or wrapped neatly in a recyclable box full of recycled paper.

I am still so thankful for stumbling across Flora and Fauna on the day that I did. I had been wondering how I could start to reduce my carbon foot print on the world and this buy was the beginning of many, that have changed how I choose to buy products and produce for my home and for others.
