Organic Bentonite Clay is one of Love Ya Guts staple products and it is quite an interesting one. I had heard of activated charcoal being good for cleaning up the digestive tract but I had never heard of pink clay being used internally, until I looked into the products in this box.
"Throughout the ages, traditional cultures have used bentonite clay in a variety of ways in their daily lives. Formed from weathered volcanic ash millions of years ago it has been referred to as, ‘The precious gift from Mother Earth.’ It has similar properties to diatomaceous earth (fossil shell flour) it carries a negative charge which bonds with positive charges present in toxins and the like and attracts the toxicity present in our digestive system such as chemicals, heavy metals and general endotoxins from our metabolism and helps release them from the body."
Some of the benefits you may experience taking bentonite clay:
Improved intestinal regularity
Relief from constipation or diarrhoea
Relief from indigestion and ulcers
Improved energy
Clearer and brighter complexion
Brighter and whiter eyes
Enhanced alertness and clarity
Improved tissue and gum repair
Increased resistance to infections
Bentonite Clay has the ability to clear some types of bacteria, parasites and intestinal worms from the body. Much like all the other products in the box, it also contains essential minerals which can be good for promoting healthy hair, skin and nails.
The instructions state to take a wooden teaspoon of the clay every day in water. It also says that the clay should have minimal contact with metal and is better shaken or stirred with a wooden spoon. You can add the clay to smoothies or bone broths if you dont want to take it with water. The clay can also be added as a thickener to sauces when cooking.
I take a teaspoon of this clay in a medicine cup full of water, stirred with the wooden spoon that comes with the box. It is a bit gritty but super quick to stir and swallow down. I take this before I go to bed every night so it cannot possibly affect any of my daily medications (which I take in the morning).
A little bit TMI (too much information) for some (sorry, not sorry!) but since consuming the Bentonite Clay, I have found my toilet habits have become more regular - which is not normal for me with Inflammatory Bowel Disease - so this is super exciting! (Anyone with bowel issues, IBD or IBS will 100% understand the excitement and celebration of these little moments of relief!)
Whenever you are thinking about consuming a product that creates a cleansing or detoxing reaction in the body, make sure you understand what it's function is and only take as directed.
This product requires you to wait a minimum of one hour before or after taking medications to allow the prescribed medication to properly absorb in the body and at least 30 minutes before or after food to allow time for digestion and absorption of nutrients.
